A sweet and spicy marriage of my favorite healthy ground turkey with the delicious taste of sausage. Perfect with a salad or as an appetizer.
You can use 2 lbs of any ground meat you prefer — doesn’t have to be sausage and a ground meat.
- 1/2 cup hot sauce (Frank’s)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbs apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp red pepper chili flakes
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 5 pork sausage links, casings removed
- 2 large cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup panko bread crumb
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 2 eggs
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Line a rimmed cookie sheet with parchment paper.
In a small pot, mix and heat the sauce ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook sauce for 8 minutes. Remove from heat… will thicken up on its own.
In a large bowl, using your hands, combine the turkey and sausage meat. In a medium bowl, mix the bread crumb and seasonings. Transfer to the bowl with the meat and add in the garlic and eggs. Mix everything with your hands until all is incorporated. Form your meatballs on the large side. Place on the cookie sheet.
Bake for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
Dip each ball into the sauce and serve immediately.
Yields 36 meatballs.
