baked mozzarella sticks

 

A side dish I have been wanting to make for a very long time now.  I don’t know why I prolong things that are inevitable.  Atleast they are here to stay now.  These are really simple to make and incredibly delicious.  Serves perfectly with a warmed up marinara sauce.  My kids obviously loved em.  They will no doubt get repeated in this house.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup oat flour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 egg whites, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumb (or panko)
  • 1 tsp parsley flakes
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 12 sticks mozzarella string cheese
  • Vegetable oil spray

Directions:

Remove sticks from packaging and slice each in half to make 24 sticks.  In a small bowl house the oat flour, garlic powder and cayenne pepper & mix.  The egg whites in their own bowl.  And lastly, the breadcrumb, parsley, oregano and salt in separate bowl and mix.  Dredge each stick first in oat flour, then in eggs, and lastly in breadcrumb; pressing down gently to adhere mixture to the stick.  Place on a large tray or dish and freeze them for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 475 F.

Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with vegetable oil.  Place sticks on baking sheet and spray the tops with the vegetable oil.  Bake for 5-7 minutes or until golden brown on top.  Definitely watch them because they will melt if left in oven.

Yields 4 servings.

Side Notes:

Oat flour can be substituted for regular all purpose flour or gluten free flour.

Use gluten free breadcrumbs to make this dish gluten free.
